데니 레인, 콜린트 워윅, 마이크 핀더(키보드 보컬)

레이 토머스(플룻 보컬) 그레엄 에지( 드럼) 등으로

1964년 출발한 영국출신의 프로그레시브락 그룹

무디 블루스(Moody Blues)는 1965년 ‘The Magnificent Moodies’ 앨범으로 데뷔한다.

 

66년 레인과 워윅이 팀을 떠나자 저스틴 헤이워드(보컬 기타) 존 로지(베이스 보컬 기타)를 영입해

전열을 정비한 이들은 이듬해 명반 ‘Days of future passed’로 흥행과 호평 두 마리 토끼를 잡으며

클래식과 락을 가장 성공적으로 접목한 효시로 확실하게 자리매김한다.


이후 무디의 음악은 Word, Question, Voice등의 음악으로 클래식과 팝이 얼마나 유려하게

잘 어울릴 수 있는가를 보여주었고 한국 팬들이 너무나도 아끼고 좋아하는

Nights in White Satin,

For my lady

Melancholy Man등의 음악으로 부동의 위치를 확보하게 된다.

 

이 멜랑콜리 맨은 마이크 핀더의 살짝 감기 든 듯한 목소리에

내뱉듯이 신세타령조로 읇조리면서

중간중간 기타와 주변 효과음들이 기가 막힌

무드를 만들어 낸다.

 

중간부분에 간주로 들어가는 바람소리는 마치 내가

황량한 겨울 들판에서 바바리 깃을 높이 세우고 고독의 절정을 맛보는 느낌으로 와 닿는다..
